I know you have always heard that the first impression matters and that you never get a second chance to make one.
But very few people take this seriously.
You meet a guy at a party and feel you have a lot in common you could become good friends. But at the end of the night, you don’t exchange contacts to meet again.
Have you been to a job interview feeling confident and leave feeling like you nailed it? But while you keep waiting and expecting a callback, it never comes.
Here is the thing!
When you meet someone new and get to talk to them, his or her brain forms an impression of you in a very short time. The judgment they give you is what tells them who you are, what you’re like, whether or not they’d like to get to know you better. I personally sometimes make judgments according to emotions. When I get the gut filling most of the time that one is a potential threat.
People decide on what you’re before you say anything beyond your initial introduction.
What this means is, that a date or a job interviewer will decide whether or not they like you within minutes of your meeting, and then spend the rest of the date/interview simply confirming that decision.
Sometimes that first impression changes but it takes a long time to erase the picture one has of you in their heads. Well, in most cases, if you don’t make a connection with someone right off the bat, you’re not likely to get another opportunity to do so.
The fact that you never get a second chance to make a first impression has never been more true.
